Gideon just announced a successor to the 1541u. Pretty much the same capabilities minus the use of full size SD cards (uses micro sd instead) and ethernet. It comes with built in C2N capabilities and an as of yet unannounced capability. Rumor is SCPU emulation, but no telling. It also is supposed to ship with a case this time. A huge benefit in my eyes.
The best thing so far is the estimated price is only 125 euro which puts it at a bit better price point. I'm sure I'll end up with one as I'm guessing this will be the end of the road for regular 1541u updates. Well, that and I seem to be collecting his hardware revisions! I really need to make the decision to eliminate my C= floppy drive collection before everybody has an SD solution. |

Super CPU emulation would be a really big plus. The most recent ebay auction for a Super CPU closed at just over $400, so anything below $200 US would be a steal.
I kinda regret not getting the Ethernet version of the 1541U, but I guess I've never actually needed it anyway.
It's funny that I got the 1541U, then spent the extra for a case, and now he's building a new version of the hardware that comes with a really sweet case... heh, at least I didn't get stuck with a 1541-III! _________________ -Brandon |

This seems weird to me... where's the benefit in going to microSD? There's plenty of room on the board for regular SD, plus the cards are cheaper and available in larger capacities. Also, my current 1541 Ultimate handles tape files just fine, so I'm not sure what this new support is all about. Losing ethernet support also seems like a needless downgrade, though I doubt many people used it anyways, so that's no huge loss.
If it can replace a SuperCPU though, then I'd consider that very interesting. The case is nice too... even if I don't upgrade, I might buy one of those if he makes them available separately.
