Cool. I have a Super Snapshot 5 cart so I am a little used to that, but I read in the 1541u forum that some people have experienced corruption problems with that rom.

If I remember correctly this was a problem with firmware 1.0 which has been fixed in 1.1.

A lot of the problems reported on their forums seem to revolve around 1541-II drives and other "non-standard" hardware. I've been using a 64 breadbox w/1541 and 1571 drives and haven't had any problems (after upgrading to 1.1).

Thanks Rob. I'm certainly looking forward to it. Now if he'd only build a Gamebase browser right into the firmware... Laughing

I'm with you on the gamebase idea. What I requested from him is a simple text file reader so you can read the .nfo files that are a part of the gamebase structure.

I can tell you that the entire set of games will fit on a 2 gb card with a bit of room to spare. I just had to break them down into directories with (I believe) 200 or less entries per directory.

So I just got a 1541 Ultimate today.... or more accurately, my brother bought one, but since he doesn't have any room at his place to keep a C64 setup, it more or less defaults to my care.

God damn is this thing ever handy! Not only does it load everything from SD cards perfectly, but it also replaces my bulky 1750 and Retro Replay, and basically obsoletes my giant collection of 5.25" disks.

I don't know what firmware it shipped with, but if it was the original one, you should upgrade it. The original (1.0?) has a few issues with the cartridge issues and the drive handling routines. I'm still running 1.1 but I may upgrade to 1.5 this weekend.

I've been running the corrected version of 1.5 and have been pretty happy with it. I haven't tried any of the ethernet stuff out yet, but from what I read it mostly works. Maybe we can tackle some of that next weekend or something.

+1 on the 1541U. I got mine a little while ago and it's the best add-on hardware I've ever seen for the C64. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but from what I've done so far I can see it'll be a lot of fun.

I upgraded my "red" Commodore 64 with JiffyDOS. I can't believe I used fastloader carts for so long -- JiffyDOS is just so much better. Plus it's cool to have a big switch drilled into the back of the C64. Smile

Flack, looks like the 1.7 beta firmware added support for the Epyx Fastload cart. Weren't you wanting that?
