I just realized I never took the opportunity to gloat about having gotten a new computer, probably because I was too distracted with school. I got my first NEW computer in 10 years. I got a MacBook Pro 17" couple months ago now, just after they did the refresh. I used the student store to buy it.

It has an Intel Core i7 at 2.66GHz, 8GB RAM, and the 7200RPM 500GB hard drive. I also chose the anti-glare screen. I'm totally loving it so much.

So yeah, yay me! Very Happy

Now the question of what to do with the Dual G4 tower.... it's from before OS X was released to the general public... It's got a Sonnet Duet dual 1.8GHz G4 card installed and it's currently running Leopard. It's one of the fastest machines that can boot directly into OS 9, It has like 5 drive bays in it... I'm wondering if I should install a SATA card in it and put in some large hard drives in it... maybe use it as extra storage or as a means to back up the MBP.... That and I'm also wondering if I should downgrade it from Leopard to Tiger so it will be a little snappier and get back classic layer.

Set it up as a media server, that's what I'm doing with my G5 Powermac and I'm sure a dual 1.G4 would smoke that. I use it to allow me to stream video to my Xbox 360s, computers with iTunes, and AppleTVs.

We actually have a Mac Mini hooked up to the main TV which gets used for DVDs, Netflix on-demand, YouTube and whatever else. It's hooked up to one of the optical inputs on the surround sound system. But it's not *my* Mac Mini... I just paid for it.

Right now I just turn the G4 on when I need files that are on it and connect to it over the network from the MBP.
