Most Atari Mega STs have empty RAM slots on the board, filled in at the factory, so you can expand the RAM up to 4MB. Well, maybe that’s not what Atari wanted you to do. By adding chip sockets to the slots on the board, and of course, buying RAM, you can beef up your system.
